PALETTE and PENCIL Plus

The Palette and Pencil Guild has extended its range beyond drawing and painting to include pastel, collage, printing, photography, and mixed media. Our horizons are forever expanding. We also own an etching press so that we may develop our printing skills.

Our membership is open to anyone interested in the practice and exploration of the visual arts. We also provide art classes, workshops and demonstrations of artistic techniques.

We meet every Tuesday to work together at the Artisans' Cottage in the afternoons from 1 to 3 pm or at other pre-arranged times and locations.

In better weather we hold Plein Air days where we paint local landscapes, and in the summer we sponsor a Plein Air event in Norval and invite artists from all over Southern Ontario and New York State to join us in competition.

If you like painting please contact us for more information.

History

Frank C. Black, a landscape painter who lived in Georgetown for 36 years, founded the Palette and Pencil Club in 1965 during his retirement years. It fulfilled his need to work with other artists and to develop his talent for teaching. Frank Black died in 1988 but his joy in creating art has survived. Over the years hundreds of people have joined our group to paint and to share their skills and knowledge with one another. The present day group is an integral part of the Credit Valley Artisans and works out of the Artisans' Cottage in Cedarvale Park, Georgetown.
